What is CanadianRoots.info?
CanadianRoots.info is a secure, web-based system for the collaborative creation and management of family trees and genealogical information. It uses a mature, well supported and popular shareware program called “Webtrees”. Currently, CanadianRoots.info operates on version 2.0 of webtrees, recently upgraded and adapted to recognize that more people now use smartphones and tablets rather than desktop or laptop computers to navigate the Internet.
Webtrees offers us the ability to create a wide variety of reports, charts, and books with our own family
data.
History of CanadianRoots.info
CanadianRoots.info was created by Robert "Bob" Snyder, in 2006. Bob developed, managed, and personally funded CanadianRoots until his passing in 2012. It was originally intended to be a simple and convenient “place” for creation of the family trees and management of the genealogical data for the Snyder and Kull families. However, it very rapidly grew like topsy, far exceeding its intended purpose.
In the fourteen years since its inception, CanadianRoots has grown exponentially and now includes
2910 individuals, 929 families, 714 surnames. Latest birth: Aubrey Lee Lindsay Gibson, Birth

Upon the passing in 2012 of founder, Bob Snyder, family member, Jeff Yakel volunteered to become the technical support for CanadianRoots,info, which at the time was hosted on BlueHost.com at an approximate cost of $250/year. For the six years between 2012 and 2018, costs were funded by member donations. In 2018, Jeff Yakel very generously offered to host the CanadianRoots.info website on his own personal webserver space, completely at his personal expense. And, Jeff has also volunteered to take care of and pay for the annual admin details of renewing the CanadianRoots.info domain. THANK YOU, JEFF!

Over the years, cousin Verna Kull-Hutchinson, an avid amateur genealogist and family historian has taken a lead role in populating CanadianRoots with a wide variety of family tree information. She has also mentored new members wanting to learn how to create and manage their family histories. Can I use CanadianRoots.info to create my own family tree?
Absolutely! Yes. But you’ll have to be a registered member. If you aren't already registered, you
can request an account here. As a non-member, you will only be able to view the information of
deceased family members. The records of living people in the database are hidden from view.
Once you’re registered, browse around a while and get to see how it all works. When you’re
ready, you might need a little help to get started. No worries! If you need a hand to navigate or
